Maybe you remember my post about the fabulous Helen Rawlinson? Remember? She makes beautifully screen-printed fabrics and bags and lampshades. And in that post, I promised to share a project that she did with kids. Here it finally is!:
Helen (who lives in London) held a half-term holiday workshop in screen-printing for 5 to 11 year olds! (Brave, brave woman.) And look at the lovely prints they produced!:
The little bird on the left was made by Kai, a five-year-old (!).
Aren't they awesome?! It's amazing how the designs that children come up with are often better than anything an adult could do--and truer. Looking at these makes me very happy (as well as tired, to imagine accomplishing it). Helen talks more here and here on her blog about this workshop and others from the recent past. It's really fascinating--I'm not entirely certain I could screen-print anything like this, but these kids (with Helen's help) created some really super designs!
If you didn't the first time, you might want to take a peek at Helen's shops, to see what she's capable of-- wonderful fabrics, lampshades, pillows, and more...
Have a great one, all!
xoxox.
Ooh - I love these! I teach a lot of summer camps for kids and if I had seen this a few weeks ago I'd be offering screen printing this summer. Oh well - I guess it can wait for next year.

Take the five-year-old, sit 'em down, put out some milk and cookies and then work that baby for 12 hours before someone finds out you're exploiting a child ... I won't tell.
