Hello, Monday. I'll ignore you, you ignore me. Let's just get on with it, shall we?
I've a lovely idea to share with you today, readers! I'm so excited...The ever-so-lovely Erika, of Miko Design on etsy and in blogland had the most wonderful party for her daughter. Erika and her family live in Holland, and her oldest daughter, Sofia, just turned 8. You won't believe the special party she got...
Disney princesses, you ask? Barbie? Or heaven forbid, the dreaded Hannah Montana? Nope. Not for this classy Mama. It was Frida Kahlo, all the way.
And the girls loved it! Here is her lovely Sofia posing a la Frida for the invitation, which she created.
Erika made beautiful skirts for her girls...
They decorated with tissue paper flowers, a homemade Frida doll, and more...
And decorated some more...
The cake was beautiful...
They even made a Frida pinata!...Finally, all was ready...
And the girls arrived! They had their photos taken with lovely Frida Kahlo hairstyles...
And painted self-portraits, of course!
(The artists at work...)
When the festivities were over, and the tired Fridas had to depart, they left with so, so sweet goody-bags goccoed with a drawing of Frida by Sofia, and filled with a coloring book, Mexican-inspired pins, and colored pencils...
Here is what Erika said about it all when I wrote to her and asked if I could share Sofia's party: "I tried to give Sofia a girly party ( because she is a girly girl, who loves dress-up, earings, high heels) but without the commercial feeling to it. I love how she appreciates it and that she sees and loves the beauty of handmade, although a cheap plastic pink dress is still very appealing!" (I hear you, Erika!)
Don't you just LOVE it?! I am seriously thinking of throwing a party like this here (which would be considerably easier here, with our close proximity to Mexico). My girls would love it...but I don't know about their friends. (Maybe I underestimate them. I hope so.)
Anyway, here's great news--Erika has a lovely blog, and she is doing a give-away of Frida Kahlo goodies, as shown below:
You just need to visit her blog here and leave a comment and a suggest an idea for the next party (this one will be difficult to top, I think!). Whether you enter the give-away or not, Erika is an incredibly sweet and creative and inspirational woman and mother, and you might want to give her blog a peek. You'll be glad you did!
I'm off to have summer fun with my girls. Have a good one!
i just ADORE this idea -
i wish i'd thought of it for my daughter's 7th birthday!
