Hello, all!
Don't know about you, but I don't wear much jewelry. I do, however, have a eternal and undying love for rings. (I'm not sure why, but there you go. I just love them.) And when I saw the designs of artist Maria Apostolou, I nearly fell off my chair--in surprise, not the normal clumsiness. They are by turns whimsical and bold, and often both.
Take a peek!:
Aren't they gorgeous? But wait! It seems that Maria has challenged herself to make a ring a day, and the wonderful thing about the rings she's making (and the challenge) is that not all of the rings are permanent, nor need they be. This has freed Maria to use a wide scope of imagination and pure creativity.
See?! Can you stand how cool these are?!:
An olive leaf, matchsticks, a seed-pod, aloe vera...
A bullet found in the street, a paper crane, hyacinth and lavender, shredded paper, a leaf from a poinsettia...
Two can-pulls tied together with purple string, a tiny succulent, a piece of bark...
There are so many more to see, each one more wonderful than the last. Head straight on over to Maria's Ring-A-Day flickr set, and you will fall in love!
Maria has so inspired me! Imagine taking something that is usually made to last and last, and turning it into a daily challenge, using mostly (or only) materials near-to-hand. I love that! It would make you look at the item you are creating in a whole new way, don't you think?
Later, 'gators!
xoxox.
p.s. Oh! There's a whole group on flickr for the ring-a-day challenge (a lot of very cool stuff, but Maria's are my faves)...Go see!
im with you... i rarely ever wear jewelry, just dont like getting caught on things or having extra stuff in the way.... but these rings are awesome. im drawn to the first one because it reminds me of a toy (but honestly wouldnt be able to keep it on very long) im seeing myself wearing the ribbon one tho. go maria!

I agree, Jessie...I don't even wear my wedding ring all the time--but I do like to wear rings when I'm dressed nicely (which is rare). I take mine off the second I'm home though. Maybe ribbons are the way to go?! xo.

Unbelievably creative! Reminds me of Andy Goldsworthy's environmental art... and these lovely rings are encouragement to see the beauty of everything in nature, with the lightest touch of human intervention. Thank you for sharing them.
