Hello, sweet friends! Did you guys have a great weekend? I do hope so...
Mine didn't shape up exactly as I had hoped, mainly due to the bad neighborhood that is known as the interior of my head. I finished this wonderful book, which far exceeded my expectations, but was a trifle sad (hence, the title), and I just don't need any more pushes in the melancholy direction. It was wonderful, though--really, really beautiful, and I am so glad I read it.
Moving on, my dears: I have to say that if I hadn't kind of promised to share this with you, I wouldn't. I'm just not loving it. And, I must say, that although I intended to make the awesome pouf from Pickles, it was not the case that I could just substitute the Lion Brand Yarn (duh), so I just went ahead and made my own thing up...
Also, I used scraps of yarn, which in retrospect is not a good idea for your first project. (Nor is creating your own pattern, for that matter.) The stripes seem to show all my newbie errors...and there are many. But overall, I'm really proud I finished, especially since when I started, I didn't even know what double crochet was!
And I do like the colors together, it's sort of modern and unlike me...
But after this little photo session, it went back into my closet, and there it shall stay. The shape is all wrong and it's lumpy. For those of you interested in this pattern, the original from Pickles, I will say that you need to use their yarn. Apparently, it is really, really big, not at all the same size as the Lion Brand I used...
So, there you go! I loved working on it, and I'm sure that picking the right kind of yarn for the pattern will make it even more enjoyable...I'll be doing more crocheting--oh, yes I will!--as soon as I have a little bit of spare change for some more delicious yarn.
Back later, my dears--with a wonderful home and a giveaway! Whoo-hoo!
xoxox.
Your pouf is great! :))

I love the pouf!

are you kidding me?! your pouf is awesome, and it needs to be loved. perfection is overrated (and honestly, i don't even see the flaws).

i love it! i don't see any flaws at all, and i love the stripes! great job!

Hey, you woke up, you got up, you spent some time being creative, and that is just great. The pouf is fun!

Thanks, you guys! Maybe after a few days away from it, I can see it as you do...You know how it is, I'm sure! But thank you so much for your sweet words!

I think your pouf is just perfect! The pattern was a jumping-off point for you, and you jumped in the right direction! Creative projects are a lot like kids: We love them for who they are, not for who we envisioned them becoming. ( ;

Don't be silly! I really like your pouf!

it's a good pouf, dont put it in the cupboard, it'd be sad and it'll start imagining it's not good enough..
it's not nice in the dark either, all by yourself, all the time. at least crochet some more things and put it with the pouf. (have you tried zpagetti?, me neither but i hear great things about it. yes, zpagetti!).

oh amy, i love your pouf... i love that it records in every detail your 'leap into crochet'. you can never ever let it go, for in years to come you will recall when you started a life long addiction to crocheting (for that is what crocheting does to you!) and look fondly at your pouf, remembering your 'proud' moment and seeing how far you have come :)

Well, I think it turned out just lovely! I know...we are always harder on ourselves and hold ourself to much higher crafting standards ;) But...the pouf turned out beautifully...especially since it it your first! I think, my dear, that you are an inspiration...even that you finished it...you should be proud! I always look forward to your posts and have found many great links, so THANK YOU for sharing them.

i am actually completely in love with the colors and the apparent texture... would never have believed it was your first one! i am entirely impressed and saddened that le petit pouf has been banished to the closet.

That pouf deserves to be loved and shown off. Put it out and see how others react to it--it may grow on you more as you hear more and more good comments about it by those who see it in your home. And also, very brave of you to undertake making it--yo are inspiration for my quilt!

LOVE IT! I was thinking the whole time it is a kid's chair - is that right?
Posted by: christina | February 02, 2010 at 07:08 AM
Yes, Christina, it's a kid's chair--so it's not as big as it looks!

get it out of the closet: it's a cutie!

It's sooo lovely and cute, and great colours. You can't possibly hide it away! I will put it on my blog and tell everyone how cruel you are....!

I've been planning to make one of these with the same yarn, but I was going to use my own not-yet-made-up pattern. Glad to know there's one out there! Yours doesn't look different from the original at all, save for colour differences. They've both got that handmade charm going for them!
