Would you just look at these (from the incredibly talented Jill of Jill Bent)? Would you!?:
I think...I just...died. They are so, so precious. And I would love to purchase one from this beautiful little shop, but I cannot. I just can't. My husband worked his last day of work today. For a while, anyway--until he finds something else...
Would it be wrong to make my own? See, this is where crafting gets tricky. I mean, of course, I would never, ever pass them off as my own design, but it's just the mere idea of copying someone else's beautiful work! And yes, I could change them so I'm not copying, but I don't want to. I want these dolls. JUST LIKE THEM. And I could probably do a serviceable job of copying them, but it wouldn't be right. The spirit would be all wrong...
I guess I'll just enjoy the picture.
(I found them via the beautiful bliss, which is a blog so lovely I just want to hang up my keyboard right now. I can't do any better than that! It's stunning. You must go see.)
See you tomorrow, my sweet friends...!
xoxo.
If I couldn't afford the real thing I would totally make them for myself! There is absolutly nothing wrong with that especially if they're for only you. You could always credit the inspiration for them so maybe you'll feel less like you are cheating or stealing which I don't believe you would be. ;o)

To me those clothespin dolls look very classic and like things I made as a Girl Scout 20 years ago. The originality is maybe the yarn scarf? The color/texture combinations? I think if you're making them for personal enjoyment and don't plan to sell them, it would be fine to be inspired/encouraged to make some cozy clothespin people, especially if you are not trying to copy one of the dolls exactly.

I say make away--especially if it will bring you joy just to make them. Also, Bliss is a lovely, lovely, lovely blog. I could lose myself in the winding hallways of posts and links there for hours, maybe even years.

Oh please make them and then share the result of combining her inspiration and your creativity!
Whenever I set out to copy something, it always ends up mine. I can't wait to tackle your Charlie and Lola house with my children. I'm thinking ours will belong to the Borrowers.
There's nothing wrong with copying if you're just making it for yourself.
So sorry about the job loss. We went through it for ten weeks last year. It wasn't very fun but I learned a lot and the new job is much better than the old. Plus my husband is able to be home more now. It will get better!

I see absolutely nothing wrong with making your own if they are for you! If you were selling them, then that's another matter.....
