This morning we were so inspired by this post by this post of Christine's, which references the lovely stones by Emily, that we spent the better part of our day making our own...Story Stones! The name and the credit all go to Emily of red bird crafts--her little bird stones, in particular, are darling. And, yay! Emily has done a fabulous tutorial here on her excellent blog, which tells you everything you need to know! It's easy-peasy fun, I'm telling you...
Here's what we came up with around here:
bee-on-flower, hummingbird, and nest-with-egg...
rabbit, stump, raccoon, and flower...
tree, beaver, owl, and mouse! And, of course, I had to make two little girls to get in on the fun...
Here's the whole gang, and we have plans for lots more. More stones = more stories!
Someone one Christine's blog commented that they would be great to take along for car trips or long waits at doctor's offices or restaurants. Some of you may be thinking, "well, what's all that different from just taking little plastic animals?".
Because you made them yourselves, silly!
You can play a game where they take the rocks out of a bag one at a time and make up a story as they go along, or you can just line them up and tell the story how ever you want...
I love the idea, and they do too. Inexpensive, easy, and lots of play value beyond the crafting. Cool. Thanks again, Christine and Emily for the inspiration!
(Oh, and I'm entering into Pip's "We Made This!" contest to win a copy of her book with this post [I hope, I hope, I hope!] Check it out here.)
See you tomorrow!
These are precious! I will be re-stealing the idea for my girl as soon as camp finishes next week.

These are soooo cute! This inspires me, in turn, to return to this project later in the week. Your girls are so talented!

We were planning on creating "pet rocks" as an activity this summer but this idea is over the top!
My girls will adore creating a bunch of their own Story Stones! ;)

In the beach where we use to hang out, there are huge, I mean huge, stones painted like cats. Lovely like yours!

How very clever you are - this is a lovely idea, exactly the kind of thing my kids love.
Have you heard of the World beach project? I gave this link to another blogging friend the other day, its amazing:
